![]() ![]() I have a bit of a coolant drip from around the area of both tanks. Sunday while trying to get up my snowy street I walked behind the van while it was warm and idling. Topped it off, and the system drew it in. Two days later, the light came on again, and overflow tank was dry. ![]() That afternoon, the light wasn't blinking. I cleaned them up, and sprayed some deoxit (contact cleaner) on there. This happened to me last winter.and it turned out to be the connectors that attach to the coolant level sensor at the top of the pressurized tank. It is common for brake fluid to get spilled in this area causing harm to the connections there. I could be a bad connection at the instrument cluster 14-pin plug. If these circuits are definitely good, then check the coolant temperature sensor circuit all the way up to the gage. After all, there is often moisture present in this area. We have had to replace the metal electrical connectors inside the plug quite commonly because of corrosion. it could be just a dirty connection between the electrical plug and sensor. If the light does go out, and your coolant level is OK, your problem is the coolant level sensor-shich is rare since it is such a simple device. You should check the operation of the sensor. Was there any coolant pooled on top of the overflow tank where the sensor goes in? This can cause the light to blink as well. ![]() Maybe it's a coolant mix issue? That's a new one to me. I still have blinking issues every once and a while, but have chalked it up to an old sensor. I think most shops can test your coolant for exhaust gasses. I thought it was the head gasket and was happy to not deal with that. These same symptoms happened to me before I had thermostat problems and overheated. If you have just added coolant in the wrong proportion this might be the problem. I found this out a couple of years ago when I was adding too much pure coolant and not enough water. If it is stronger than 50/50 (I'm not sure how much stronger it needs to be) - the low coolant light will flash continuously. The coolant level sensor is sensitive to the coolant/water ratio. Posted: Thu 2:58 pm Post subject: Check coolant/water ratio Try replacing the cap on the pressure tank first and refilling the system. You may be leaking exhaust gases into the cooling system, pushing coolant into the overflow tank. The sensor is in the pressurized tank to the left above the overflow tank. If my low coolant light was flashing, the fill tank should have been empty, right? As I opened the overflow tank, hot coolant rushed out because - it was completely full. "Time to top it off when I get home," I thought to myself. As I pulled in the garage at work with the '87 this morning, the light started blinking.
